Installing xNIC

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this section, users will learn about the xNIC virtual adaptor and how to install the component on Windows and Linux systems.

xNIC is the software that runs on your VM to create a virtual NIC, allowing the virtual machine to send and receive multicast traffic on the cloud. The xNIC component connects VMs to one or several cloudSwXtch instances.

There are three types of xNIC (users can read about that on the xNIC Type 1 vs. Type 2 vs. Type 3 section). There’s an argument used to instruct the script to install a given Type.

xNIC System Requirements

There are some major feature considerations to make when deciding what xNIC version to use. These prerequisites are further detailed in the xNIC System Requirements article.

Linux Installation Guide

In Linux VMs, users should follow the instructions on the xNIC Linux Installation page.

The installer script will install the xNIC as a service, as well as utility applications used to verify the operation of the xNIC and cloudSwXtch instance network for a Linux system. See Tools and Testing.

Windows Installation Guide

In Windows VMs, users should follow the instructions on the xNIC Windows Installation page.
The installer script will install the xNIC as a service, as well as utility applications used to verify the operation of the xNIC and the cloudSwXtch instance network for a Windows system.
