WHAT TO EXPECT

In this article, users will learn about the swXtchBridge including the benefits of implementing one in their cloudSwXtch network. For installation steps, please complete the following:

  1. Review the swXtchBridge System Requirements.

  2. Review Install swXtchBridge guide.

What is a swXtchBridge?

A swXtchBridge enables bi-directional traffic between an on-premises network and a cloudSwXtch, even multicast. As a DPDK-based solution, the swXtchBridge unlocks the following benefits:

  • High throughput with support for any NIC

  • UDP swXtch Lossless protocol (SLP) for Ground to Cloud/Cloud to Ground traffic

  • IGMPv3 for Source Specific Multicast

  • Protocol Conversion and Fanout for all supported protocols

  • Dynamic IGMP joins and leaves. When an application in the cloud sends an IGMP join, then the cloudSwXtch in the cloud sends the information to the ground cloudSwXtch as a bridge, allowing the traffic to go through. Dynamic bridge is supported from ground to cloud.
For cloud to ground, if there are Arista/Juniper COTS switches interconnecting devices, the bridging will also be dynamic. If not, there is no current support to propagate IGMP joins and leaves. Multicast groups must be explicitly configured to let the bridge know what traffic is to be transported.

To install a swXtchBridge, please review the swXtchBridge System Requirements page and then continue to the Install swXtchBridge article.

Information on how to configure, change the performance mode, and set static subscriptions can be found on the swXtchBridge configuration and use page and in wXcked Eye wXcked Eye Topology Graph/Component Information Panel,

Instructions on how to uninstall a swXtchBridge are described in the Uninstall swXtchBridge page.
